On March 25, 2025 – The IEEE MTT/AP/ED Thailand Seminar was held at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) in a hybrid format, bringing together leading experts in electrical engineering and wireless communication technologies. The event provided insights into groundbreaking advancements in antenna technology, metamaterials, and wireless power transfer (WPT).

The seminar opened with a welcome speech by Asst. Prof. Dr. Panarit  Sethakul, Advisor to the dean on International Affairs and Special Projects of the Faculty of Technical Education, followed by an opening speech from Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn, Vice President for Research at KMUTNB.

The first special lecture, delivered by Prof. J.C. Vardaxxoglou, covered “A Historic Advance of Periodic Arrays as FSS/PRS in High-Gain Antennas, 3D Printed Metaatoms, and Bistable Auxetic Metamaterials.” His presentation explored cutting-edge developments in Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS) and Partially Reflective Surfaces (PRS), which play a crucial role in enhancing antenna efficiency and performance. His research has the potential to revolutionize applications in 5G, satellite communications, and advanced radar systems. The second lecture, by Prof. Wei Lin, focused on “Advanced Antenna Technologies for Far-Field Wireless Power Transfer Enabled IoT Applications”. His discussion emphasized WPT innovations, which could eliminate the need for batteries in IoT devices, paving the way for sustainable, battery-free technologies in smart cities, healthcare, and industrial automation.

The seminar concluded with a closing speech by Prof. Dr. Titipong Lertwiriyaprapa, Chapter Chair of IEEE MTT/AP/ED Thailand, followed by a research group discussion also Professor Dr. Danai Torrungrueng, aimed at strengthening international research collaboration in antenna technology and wireless communications.

This seminar was sponsored by the National Science, Research and Innovation Fund (NSRF), King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok with Project No. KMUTNB-FF-68-A-04.
